What Is The Difference Between DJI Mini 2 and DJI Air 2S?

What App Does The DJI Air 2S and DJI Mini 2 Use?
The DJI Air 2S and Mavic Mini 2 both use the DJI Fly App which can only be downloaded from the official DJI website for both IOS and Android devices.

DJI Mavic Air 2s vs Mavic Mini 2 Flight Distances
It is amazing the distance that these 2 drones can fly, but keep in mind that you must fly within the regulations of your local flying laws.
If you are flying for recreational purposes you must keep your drone in visual line of sight (VLOS).
The below distances are the maximum distance that the Mavic Air 2s and Mavic Mini 2 can fly. To get these distances you would need to be flying in an open space that has no obstructions, interference, and perfect air quality.
How Far Can The Mavic Air 2s Fly?
In ideal conditions, the Mavic Air 2s can fly up to an incredible distance of 18.5 km (11.49 miles) which is impressive for a drone that weighs only 595 grams. This distance is achievable with DJI’s new OcySync 3.0 transmission technology.
How Far Can The Mavic Mini 2 Fly?
The DJI Mavic Mini 2 can fly up to a distance of 10 km. This is possible due to the OcuSync 2.0 transmission technology that allows it to travel further while maintaining high-quality images and UHD video.
Considering the Mavic Mini 2 only weighs 249 grams, this is very impressive for this little drone and is a big upgrade from the original Mavic Mini. The original Mavic Mini had a maximum distance of only 4 km which is still impressive for its size.
OcuSync 2.0 vs OcuSync 3.0
So you may be wondering what the difference is between OcuSync 2.0 and Ocusync 3.0?
OcuSync 2.0 is equipped with 2 antennas and OcuSync 3.0 is equipped with 4 antennas. OcuSync 3.0 has a more stable transmission system than OcuSync 2.0. The difference is very minimal and most drone operators don’t notice the difference in performance.

How High Can The 2 Drones Fly
Before you get excited and want to see how high your drone can fly, you must know how high a drone can fly legally first!
Most local laws have a maximum flight height of 120 meters (400 ft).
How High Can The Mavic Air 2s Fly?
According to DJI’s specs, the DJI Mavic Air 2s has a maximum ceiling height of 5000 meters above sea level, however, you must fly within your local drone laws which most are at an altitude of 120 meters (400 ft).
How High Can The Mavic Mini 2 Fly?
The Mavic Mini 2 has a maximum ceiling height of 4000 meters (2.48 miles) above sea level, however, it is illegal to fly at this height and you must abide by your local drone laws for where you are flying.
Drone Return to Home Functions (RTH)
When spending a decent amount of money on a drone, you should make sure that it has the return to home function so if anything goes wrong, your drone will come back to you providing it has enough battery power left.
Does DJI Air 2s Have Return to Home?
The DJI Air 2s has the Return to Home (RTH) function and can be activated by holding the RTH button on the remote control or by tapping the RTH button on the left of your phone screen.
The return to home function can only be initiated if your drone is at least 20 meters away from the take-off point.
The DJI Air 2s has 3 types of return to home:
- Low battery RTH
- Failsafe RTH
- Smart RTH
Does DJI Mini 2 Have Return to Home?
The DJI Mini 2 has the Return to Home (RTH) function and can be initiated by holding the return to home button on the remote control or by simply tapping the RTH on your phone screen.
Note: The DJI Mini 2 does not have obstacle avoidance, so make sure you set your return to home altitude at a height that is higher than any obstacles on your flight path so your drone doesn’t crash into anything if RTH is activated.

How Long Can The DJI Mini 2 Fly?
The DJI Mavic mini can fly for an amazing 31 minutes on one full battery. This can be done in windless conditions and flying at a speed of 4.7 m/s.
How Long Can The DJI Air 2s Fly?
The DJI Air 2s has the same flight time as the Mavic Mini 2 of an incredible 31 minutes. This can be done in perfect conditions with no wind at all.
Do These Drones Have a Zoom Camera Function
Both the DJI Air 2s and Mavic Mini 2 have the ability to zoom the camera, but which one is better?
Does DJI Air 2s Have Zoom?
Yes, the DJI Air 2s has a digital zoom function and can be activated by holding down the Fn button while turning the gimbal wheel on the remote controller. You cannot use the zoom function when recording 10-bit videos 120fps videos.
Below are the zoom ranges for the DJI Air 2s:
- 4K/30fps: 4x
- 2.7k/60fps: 4x

Does The Mavic Air 2s & Mini 2 Record Sound?
The DJI Air 2s and Mavic Mini 2 do not record sound as they are not equipped with a microphone. After all, if they did have the ability to record sound, it would be annoying because all you would hear back on the replay would be the sound of the propellers.
What About Water Resistance for Air 2s and Mini 2?
Before you think of taking your drone out and flying it in the rain or snow, you probably should think twice about it because you don’t want to pay a decent amount of money, then have it damaged by water.
Is DJI Air 2s Water Resistant?
No, the DJI Air 2s is not water-resistant. You must not fly the DJI Air 2s in snow or during rain as this has the potential to damage your expensive drone.
Is DJI Mavic Mini 2 Water Resistant?
The Mavic Mini 2 is not waterproof, therefore should not be flown in snow or rain as it could potentially damage the internal parts of the drone.
