Is DJI Care Refresh Worth It?

Is DJI Refresh Worth It

So obviously you have recently purchased a DJI drone or you are thinking about purchasing one and wondering is DJI Care Refresh worth it? I have covered as much information as I could below to help you decide whether to purchase the insurance or not.

Is DJI Refresh Worth Buying?

Whether you are a beginner buying a drone or an experienced drone operator, I personally believe that DJI Care Refresh is worth buying no matter your experience of flying.

Would you be willing to pay a lot of money for a drone and risk crashing it and not being able to get it repaired or a new replacement?

For the small amount that the insurance costs, I would rather spend this and get up to 2 replacements within a 12 month period instead of having a damaged drone that could be costly to get fixed or having to throw in the trash because it can’t be fixed at all.

How Does DJI Care Refresh Work?

DJI Care Refresh is a comprehensive insurance plan that allows you 2 replacement drones that are either new or like-new for a small claim fee. All you have to do is contact them if you have crashed and damaged your drone. DJI will get you to package and send the drone to their DJI repair center (DJI covers the shipping fee). Once they have received your drone, they will assess the damage and give you the option for them to repair it or send you a replacement unit.

Does DJI Care Refresh Cover Crashes?

DJI Refresh covers most types of crashes. Even if you accidentally crash your drone into a swimming pool, the ocean, or lake, your drone will be covered providing you can retrieve the drone to send into DJI’s repair center.

How Long Does DJI Care Refresh Last?

The DJI Care Refresh plan lasts 12 months from the date of purchase.

Can You Renew DJI Care Refresh?

Yes, you can purchase a 12 month extended plan through the DJI Care Refresh Plus plan. This will give you an extra 12 months of insurance and also extends your warranty for an extra 12 months on the drone.

Will DJI Replace a Lost Drone?

Unfortunately, DJI Refresh doesn’t cover a lost drone. You must physically have the drone and send it to them for repairs or a replacement. Even if your drone is stuck in a tree and you know where it is and can prove it, you must get your drone out from the tree and send it to the DJI repair center.

Do the best you can to retrieve your drone if it is safe to do so. If possible, try using DJI’s ‘Find My Drone’ function on the app to help you find where it is if the drone is still turned on. If it isn’t turned on, the DJI app will show you where its last location was before the signal was lost between the drone and your remote.

Will DJI Repair Water Damage With DJI Care Refresh?

Yes, the DJI Care plan completely covers water damage for your drone, but you must be able to retrieve your drone, then they will send you out a replacement.

Can You Buy DJI Care Refresh After 48 Hours?

It is recommended by DJI to purchase your insurance within the first 48 hours of activating your drone, however, you can still purchase it after 48 hours.

To purchase the DJI Refresh after 48 hours of activating your drone, you must take photos and videos of your drone to prove that it is in perfect working condition. There is a detailed video on DJI’s website showing exactly what they require for you to submit to them.

What is Covered With DJI Refresh Insurance

  • Operator error resulting in crashing and damaging your drone
  • Accidentally dropping your drone
  • Accidents
  • Collisions resulting in damage to your drone
  • Water damage
  • Interference or signal loss resulting in crashing your drone
  • Some flyaways (DJI Care Refresh only covers the Mavic Mini 2 and the Mavic Air 2 for flyaways, but some requirements must be met. The cost to claim a flyaway is substantially more than a normal damage claim)

What is Not Covered With DJI Refresh Insurance

DJI Refresh covers a lot of different scenarios, but not all things are covered by their insurance.

Some things that aren’t covered by DJI’s Care Refresh are:

  • Theft of your drone
  • Deliberate damage or loss of your drone
  • Lost drones, including those that have been lost in the water and can’t be retrieved
  • Repair attempts that you haven’t been done by a DJI recommended repairer
  • The remote controller
  • Flyaways, except for the Mavic Mini 2 or Mavic Air 2
  • If you crashed your drone while flying it with a 3rd party app
  • Cosmetic damage
  • If your crash was due to flying in unsuitable conditions

Conclusion – Is DJI Care Refresh Worth It?

My personal opinion is that if you are going to invest a lot of money into a drone, why not take out the DJI insurance for peace of mind. It only costs about 1/10 of the price that you’ve already spent on your pride and joy.

I sometimes still get nervous myself before taking my drones out for a fly but know that I am covered if anything was to go wrong. Thankfully to date I haven’t had to make a claim, but it’s a great feeling to know that I don’t have to fork out a heap of money to replace any of my drones, all I have to do is pay the small claim fee and a new one will be on it’s the way.

While not everything is covered by DJI’s insurance, I think it’s a great deal for such great comprehensive insurance coverage.

Happy Flying!!!
